Camp 2010 - Day 3
July 14th, 2010Well…been home since Monday night. Wow - what a great time I had this year! Seems like I enjoy it more every time.
So Sunday was the last day of actual Camp. Monday morning we have breakfast, then scatter to our respective homes and go back to real life.
So back to Show and Tell…
Seems we had several people this year who did things…erm…thoroughly. Very, very thoroughly. I think we can count Nancy E among that number.

That’s one amazingly huge Pi Shawl, no? Actually she made it that big on purpose to be a bedspread. I didn’t think to ask how many needles she wound up on by the time she was done.
Maggie R had a lovely little turquoise/aqua shawl.

Along with yet another gorgeous stranded sweater. She said it was deadly boring to knit. Uh huh…

LeAnn knit a pretty black shawl.

She used a really cool trick from Lucy S when blocking the ends of the rays. You can’t really see the lovely rounded shape, but every single point is a circle of the same size. How?
Paper plates.

Pin each point around a plate and Voila! Perfectly matched circles. Lucy is amazing….
Lorraine knit a pretty little shawlette.

She’s having a bit of trouble getting around and they’re not sure why. Please send some warm fuzzies her way if you have a few to spare.
JoAnne knit a lovely aran sweater.

The yarn is actually a celery color - some that Nancy J returned in a color the manufacturer dropped. I think Nancy became one of Joanne’s favorite humans over that one.
Gwen knit a Box the Compass. I’d like to make one, but the called for yarn is way too scratchy for me. But….it’s an EZ percentage sweater, so I just need to find a yarn I like in colors that work and make one. I’ll get there eventually.

Cathy and Gwen have been friends for many years. They love each other dearly. As you can see in these fabulous Labyrinth socks Cathy knit Gwen as a gift.

She also did a February Lady for herself.

Linda L knit a small shawl. Her Mom didn’t come with her this year, and I forgot to ask her how she was.

Margo made a cute little baby blanket. Stranded then cut.

She also knit a cute little scarf. One nice thing about those small accessory pieces - they free you to use colors you’d always pass on for a larger project. And usually (like this time) they’re just cute.

Sarah knit herself a skirt out of linen - and I wish my photo weren’t blurry. Looks really good on her - good enough you’d never guess she was wearing capris under it.

Al knit several baby blankets. They have multiple grand/great-grands, so there’s a constant demand.

MVK knit a cobwebby shawl from a combo of a commercial yarn and her own hand spun in the same color.

Absolutely gorgeous.
Sharon has been knitting blankets for babies being baptized at her church. This is the latest.

Jacquiedean brought several pair of socks she’s knitted over the years. Many were either intarsia or argyle. Which I guess probably is intarsia, come to think of it.

Penny, Char and Linda all took a hank of Kauni and knit the Wood Peddler Shawl from it. Here they are with their results.

And here’s Char with hers.

Linda P (yes, there are two of us at this session every year) did an Aspen Leaf pully.

And here’s Penny modeling her…her…Yeah, her sweater.

Noreen did a cute little skirt we’ve seen before in single colors.

As well as an adorable little cardi. The two don’t exactly meld, but there’s not time for full costume changes during show and tell.

Anne did an Adult Surprise. I love the way the sleeve stripe and body stripe match up on this one.

I think she said it was four strands of unspun Icelandic carried together.
And finally, Tonya had her lovely DIL model some of the things she knit for her.

She was a fab model, strutting up the runway and doing a great job with our demands to STOP! Turn around! Hold your arm up! And all the other demands we made.
Following the last of the SNT, we had the madness that is raffle.

Raised a tidy sum for the scholarship fund too. Between that and calendar sales, we can make some very happy people next year.
This is the gang I generally sit with and go to meals with. Not exclusively of course, but just kind of the default.

L-R, Nancy, Gwen, me, Sarah, Sharon and Cathy. I sat next to Chris of Briar Rose Fibers on the other side, and she slipped out before I had a chance to say goodbye. She had to catch a ferry to get ready for a show, but it would have been nice to invite her back. Hopefully next year.
Russ and Nancy with the Cummins swag I brought him….

Although Cummins is on my shit list right now… I think I have a million dollar lemon in my generator enclosure and am NOT happy about it.
And finally a photo of the best part of camp - me and my roomie Sarah. And our butts, although you can’t see them in this photo. Hugs sweetheart, can’t wait for year after next!

Purchases in a later post.
