Shopping Day
It’s the second full day of camp. It’s also vendor day. And - the release date for Meg’s new lace DVD. So…a little surprise party.
Amy, Meg and Marilyn.

And the reason for the party:

One of the things that hangs around the knitting room

Rollie traded a knit hat for a play written for/about knitters. She and Greg performed it. Unfortunately in the end it played right into one of the stereotypes about knitters. Oh well…

Today was market day. I got some Kimmet Croft. I got it for half off, which was good. The reason for half off wasn’t so good. Jan has developed some serious health problems. Please keep her in your thoughts and/or prayers.

I also got some of Cheryl’s handpaint, but the color is so…intense or something that I can’t get a good photo. I’ll try again tomorrow in different light.
So… today’s show and tell. The theme for the day (actually, it seems to be the theme for camp) was “This isn’t really part of my show and tell, but…”
Sheryl brought in her finished sweater she was working on last year. She knit it for her daughter, and asked Victoria to model it since she’s about the same size as her daughter. It’s a beautiful, well done sweater.

Close up of the bottom edge

And a detail of the side. This is really nice work.

Her daughter is a lucky girl. She also knit her a shawl this year. Joslyns Shine.

Sheryl also got some of Meg’s stash last year. She knit up a shawl from it.

Shirley is knitting a mitered jacket from the Koigu book. There are over 5,000 of these little squares in this puppy. Whew! Actually, I’m thinking about some of the Joslyns I got last year for this…

Rhoda is her usual entertaining self. She’s doing well after her back surgery and is still recovering, but she made camp. She knit herself a faux Mink.

Which looked really cute with her leftover Fixation socks.

Renate is also a great knitter. She did this sweater, in a really nice texture pattern.

She did a double knit hat from the unspun icelandic. Really, really nice work.

She did a couple of pair of socks.

And is knitting a sweater which needs to be done in four weeks for her trip to Germany for her father’s 80th birthday.

Poppy is back. She lights up a room. No photos of the new dance genre (is that the right word?) she’s added to her tango skills. She missed last year because of a pipe that sprung a leak right after she left for a two week vacation. To say she came home to a mess would be a tremendous understatement. She had to cancel at the last minute. She knit a beautiful shawl.

And a gorgeous coat.

Nancy E did a gorgeous shawl in a beautiful tomato red yarn.

Mimi went to hooking camp right before knit camp.

Wonderful, isn’t it?
Maggie. I liked what Maggie said - “I’m a technician, not a designer”. I know exactly how she feels. I’m working on the design skills, and will modify the crap out of a pattern. She was working on this Starmore last year and brought the finished product.

Maggie knit her daughter a fabulous cabled sweater.

And one for herself.

Last year when Jane brought in the Japanese book four other people said they were going to knit it too. One of them did. It was Maggie - but she did substantial modifications. It’s a spectacular piece of work.

The two of them together. Yes, they clash. But still…

Up next - Mabel. Mabel is from Ontario, and has a shop there. She does a design for the Kensington Dog Trials every year. They’re always wonderful, and involve sheep and/or dogs. This year is a vest. It doesn’t show well in the photo, but in addition to the farm animal motifs, the whole vest is wonderfully textured.

She knit a gorgeous raglan. The photo doesn’t do the cable justice.

She did a sweater called the Taiga for a book…Northcountry Knits maybe??? And has been doing variations on the theme for quite some time. I broke down and bought the pattern today.

Close up of the band. The turquoise really makes it pop.

Lorraine won this kit in the raffle last year. I think it was a Falkenburg, but I won’t swear to it.

Lambie and Linda didn’t show finished knit pieces. Lambie showed a WIP, and Linda brought photos of some decorating ideas. She’s got an amazing creative streak.

Kathi brought shawls.

She calls this one the Swamp Shawl because of the colors. It’s still very nice, swamp and all.

Gail went to hooking camp with Mimi.

She also knit a Falkenburg kit.

Very nice.

Colleen knit this tallis for her nephew a couple of years ago. It’s his name in Hebrew. Eleven stitches to the inch. Amazing work.

Cheryl brought a jacket. It’s her hand dyed and a commercial black.

She also brought a hat and wrist warmers, also from her hand dyed. Modeled by Poppy.

And finally, Bridget brought a huge Faroese shawl knit from the unspun icelandic. She hardly knew how to act knitting on a US 10 instead of a zero or lower.

Amy in an unguarded moment…

I’m pretty pooped. I may not even go back down tonight, but just knit up here for a while longer and try to get some sleep. I did better last night, but still woke up too early for my taste.
Happy camp!

Again, another amazing post. Thank you so much. And I believe that the kit that Lorraine won and knit is Vivian Hoxbro.( I knit it in cream a couple of years ago and am hooked on mitred squares myself.)
I’ve bookmarked your blog and will be anxiously awaiting more good writing!
