But I’m knitting promiscuously again. I just can’t seem to help myself.
I’ve worked on my Maaema and it’s very pretty. It’s also the same pattern all the way through, so there’s not much point posting more photos until it’s done.
Been working the Bailey Cardigan. I’m almost up to the armholes. See?
Picked up a new book late yesterday afternoon I’d heard was pretty good. It must be, I’m on page 305. The book is “The Miseducation of Cameron Post.” Without giving too much away, so far the author has seemed to make a determined effort not to demonize the small town, homophobic cast like you might expect in this sort of story. Even the head of the Pray-Away-The-Gay school isn’t shown (yet at least) as a monster. She’s done a great job making the characters real, making me feel for them. The scene where Cam’s family confronts her about being gay had my heart pounding like it used to when I was caught doing something I knew wouldn’t be approved of. I haven’t felt that “oh shit now I’m done for” dread in years. I figure I’ll finish this one in the next day or two and return it to the library for the next person. And once again – boy has “Teen” fiction changed since I was a teen. I think for the better.
So why am I knitting promiscuously again? Because I started yet another project today. I couldn’t resist.
It’s Spectra by Stephen West. This is the first of his patterns I’ve knit. I’m using one of the sets of yarn I got from Colorshift a few weeks ago, and I picked up some Tosh Merino Light in Kale from GYC yesterday. They’re complimenting each other VERY nicely. The bad part about using a Colorshift set is I’ve got two ends per window to weave. I’m just planning to stop and weave them every 5-6 windows so it won’t be overwhelming at the end. I’m just weaving them in and leaving the tails. I’ll cut them off after I block it. Got a LONG way to go on this one, the pattern calls for 86 windows and I plan to do more. I’m also making the scarf wider by about 18 stitches. It calls for casting on 40 and I cast on 60. Yes, I know the math doesn’t work. But I’m doing a two-stitch icord border on both ends, and keeping the same number of stitches inside the cords the original pattern calls for. I’m also keeping the 8-row window size, I just increased the distance between wrap and turns from six to ten stitches.
I’ve decided not to go to the fiber fest. I’ve got a Fat Cat Knits club shipment coming in tomorrow, my Socks That Rock RSC kit should be shipped this week, and I just really don’t need to spend the money. Plus we’ve got a trip to Bella Vista in a few weeks, and Jim will be gone to his annual retirees retreat right after that. So I’ll get some of the down time I’ve been craving. We also just planned a trip over to the White River with our friends Kim and Mike a few weeks after that. This summer is shaping up to be a really busy one!
Good thing you decided not to go to Fiber Fest.
