I’m still obsessively knitting on my swirl. I’ve finished the loooong rounds, and am now knitting away on the body/sleeve pieces. It’s a funny looking creature, and I’m not even going to try to explain how it works in the end. You’ll just have to see.
Mom and I had a great time in Vegas last weekend. Saw Phantom, my third time. It was amazing, as always. I was a little surprised how much I missed my goofy black cat.
Travel knitting was the Pico Accuardi socks. I really like the way the yarn feels while I’m knitting it. Since they’re simple stockinette, I got quite a bit done.
The gray line is where the heel will go. I did decrease four stitches a little way past that, because I think they’ll be just a bit big. The way the color is drifting makes me think of clouds or of waves. I’m also trying a tip I found on a blog (Tech Knitter I think) to help with the little hole at the corner of the heels. In a nutshell, you cross the stitches right at the corner, then carry on. The theory seems to make sense to me, so I’m giving it a shot.
I wasted a whole lot of brain cycles trying to figure out how I was going to cross the stitches since I’m doing two at a time on circular needles. I was thinking about putting stitches on a holder the row before, then having them hang there waiting, blah blah blah. Hello – it’s a sock. It’s KNITTING. It stretches and you can fudge it. I just made the heel one stitch off center so the two stitches I crossed were not on opposite sides of the knitting. Duh!
I got my last installment of the Loopy Batt last week. Gorgeous primary rainbow color called “Somewhere”. I like the batts, but the way they’re set up there’s not a whole lot to do except singles or Navajo plying, so I think I won’t re-up. Besides, I’ve got coughthreecough other fiber clubs, the Rocking Sock Club, and the Tempted yarn club going on too. This is getting a little out of control again, I need to stop it.
I did finish spinning the Gale’s Fiber Art alpaca/silk roving. This picture is pre-bath, it’s hanging to dry now.
It’s a DK-worstedish weight, and I’m thinking paired with some really dark gray alpaca in my stash it will make a gorgeous striped shawl.
The current SSK KAL is for patterns by Rebecca Danger. I chose to do one of the monsters from her Big Book of Knitted Monsters. It’s a gift for a special little boy, but don’t tell him. Right now he’s unstuffed and under a couple of heavy books (the monster, not the little boy) while his mouth dries on. Then he gets stuffed, the last seam done, and his arms attached.
I managed to catch an update from Three Ewes and got the yarn from them. Since I was there anyway, I also got some Superwash Merino/bamboo/nylon roving. It’s a lovely soft color called Remember When. Hoping I can get a nice fine spin and make some socks from it.
I’ve heard how fast things go from some of these shops, but this is the first time I’ve actually caught an update to see it in action. Holy crap – in the time it took me to check out probably 50% of the stuff had vanished. I didn’t hit it until about 15 minutes after the posted update time, I can’t imagine how much I missed. Kind of crazy.
