Hello? Is This Thing Live?

And more importantly, is anyone listening?

So it’s been a while, huh?  Been busy busy.  I’ll start with the most recent and go in whatever order comes to me from there.

Last Monday evening Rhett started having mild seizures, but seizures nonetheless.  He eventually wound up at the emergency vet because we were concerned he’d been poisoned somehow.  All his blood work was normal, and of course he didn’t have any more while he was there.  We had a few days break, then he seized off and on all weekend.  He’s gotten less stressed about them as time has gone on.  At first he wanted one of us right there touching him, but now not so much.  He spent the day today at Doc Boyer’s office, and we decided to put him on phenobarbital to try to control them.  No seizures all day, and he hadn’t been home 30 minutes before he started having one.  They’re not horrible, but we’re still worried.  Brandi doesn’t seem to have even noticed, which I guess is good.

A couple of weekends ago we flew to Reno on a Friday morning.  Two hops to get there, not so bad.  Reno is at 4,500 feet above sea level.  We drove west, up over Donner Pass at 7,200+ feet.  Then we dropped down the side of the mountains and wound up in Los Molinos in the central valley.  At 223 feet.  And my ears didn’t pop until we were on the valley floor.  I was NOT a happy camper.  They actually didn’t open all the way until the next morning, and that didn’t last.

So why the 3.5 hour drive?  We went to visit my Dad - that’s why I knit the socks.  This is him and his wife Penny.  This is the….3rd time I’ve met her, and I like her more every time.

Of course Jim took some pictures.  Penny has a very green thumb.

And after we got home I realized Penny needs socks too, so I whipped out a pair and mailed them off early last week.  Before you make noises about how speedy that was, they were knit out of Baby Boom and were only 48 stitches around.  Once again, it was hard to let them go but I did.

So on Saturday morning we got up and went to breakfast, then we loaded back in the car and headed up the hill again.  3.5 hours later we got back to Reno and went to the house Mom had rented.

Oh - she rented a house for a few days for family and friends and to hold her wedding reception.  This was a trip for her wedding.  I was her Matron of Honor.  That sounds strange… Anyway, she met us back at the house after running errands and getting the room at Circus Circus, which is where the wedding was.  The room came with the wedding package, and Jim and I chose to stay there where it was a little quieter.  We went over and got a little bit of rest before we went down to meet everyone for dinner.

There were 31 people.  It was loud and rowdy and we had a fabulous time.  Partly because I was with my Mom, but also because of this:

That’s Bill.  Behind him with the stupid grin is my brother David.

And that’s his wife Wanda, sitting between David and his wife Amy.  Why is this a big deal?  Because we’ve known Bill and Wanda our *entire* lives.  Really.  They were there when Mom brought us home.  They gave us new names too.  I’m Penelope and David is Bartholomew.  No, I don’t know where that came from.  I just know that’s what Bill & Wanda have always called us and we answer to it.  Mom says she told me they were coming, but if she did I’d forgotten by the time we got to dinner.  So Wanda came in and Mom gave her a big hug and kind of teared up.  Then she looked at me and asked if I knew who that was.  I didn’t - the last time I had seen them was at least 29 years ago - but when Wanda said “Penelope doesn’t know me?” I almost knocked the table over getting around to hug her.  And I cried.  And when Bill came in he sounded just the same.  As for David - I don’t think he knew they were coming either.  David, Amy and the kids didn’t land until 6:20 so they came in after everyone else was already there for dinner.  We told Bill David had come in, and he put on this goofy had he’s had forever, sucked his lips in over his teeth like a hillbilly, turned around and hollered something about Bartholomew.

The only other time I’ve seen my brother’s face light up like that was when we snuck Mom into town from Arizona for his surprise 40th birthday party.

I’m out of steam.  More soon, but that’s all I’m up for tonight.
