Enough
Sunday, November 30th, 2008Had it? Got it? Then consider this.
Oklahoma is the 8th hungriest state in the US. Children routinely go to school or to bed without adequate nutrition. People choose every single day between food and medicine.
Thousands of unloved, unwanted animals are killed in Oklahoma every year. The numbers nationwide are in the millions. Even though there are low cost or free spay/neuter clinics, people still refuse to be responsible and allow their animals to breed. There are no-kill shelters, but they always need more help.
If you can say enough - enough food on your table and shelter for you and your family; enough to the rampant commercialism this time of year, then do something different. That person you can never decide what to buy, because they have everything? Make a donation in their name. Can’t come up with anything when someone asks what you want for Christmas? Ask them to donate to a charity instead of buying something.
I’ve linked to some that are dear to me. If there’s another you prefer, by all means choose it. These are just the ones I know about that are legitimate agencies that do very good work without taking huge chunks off the top for “administration.”
Not just during the holidays. All year long. If you’re one of the fortunate who can say enough, then have a thought for those who don’t. Not everyone who needs help is a bad person or “deserves” their circumstances. Children and animals in particular - if they’re hungry or homeless, it is not their fault.
Enough. Share it.
