OK, I’ll put them up…

Just so you won’t think I’m a slacker….

Slippers Pre Felt

I started the first one on the way to Lawton Thanksgiving day. Got most of it done on the way down, and finished the other one Saturday. This photo was taken on Saturday evening. I was going to wait to post them since they’re a present for my Mom, but she knows I’m making them so what the heck. Besides, she only seems to read me when I tell her she needs to - or at least she never leaves me a comment.

I’ve been spinning a little more, and am going to try to start doing the long draw. Right now I’m pretty much inchworming my way along.

The Russian Prime is moving right along.

Russian Prime

I’ve been worrying about the bottom edge rolling even though it’s been hemmed, so I wet a little of it the other evening and it just settled right down. After the real blocking I think it will behave quite nicely. This yarn blooms a little too, which will be nice. I’m getting a callous (yes, I spelled it right, but I had to go to dictionary.com to be sure…) on my left ring finger. I’m not sure what I’m doing different with this project that’s causing it, but it’s certainly there.

So, I felted the slippers too.

Slippers After Felting

Quite a difference, huh? I’ve still got to get the suede bottoms and sew them on. I figure I’ll run up to Guthrie one lunch to pick them up. I did two things different with these than I’ve done before. One, I felted them inside a zippered pillow case. It kept the lint corralled nicely - felting makes a LOT of lint - and I think they felted a little faster too. No idea why, but it seemed that way. The other thing I did was put a towel under the slippers on the rack when I started to dry them. When I went in the next morning to check on them, they were a long way towards dry and the towel was quite damp. It had wicked a bunch of the moisture out of the slippers, so they dried a whole day quicker than normal.

The other thing I’ve done is started a beaded bracelet.  I could have made wiser bead choices, but I’m going to keep working on it anyway.  I converted a cable pattern from Barbara Walker II.  It’s a five strand braided cable I’ve converted to five lines of different colored beads on a dark background.  Not sure how well it will show up because all the beads are iridescent, but we’ll see.

It’s going to get COLD here starting tomorrow, and is maybe going to get slick on Thursday. Hopefully not on the slick part, even though we do need the moisture desperately. The dogs will have to sleep in the house, which means Jim gets to sleep in the spare bedroom or in the living room, wherever he feels more comfy. We just can’t trust these two alone…

Isn’t it pretty?
