The Joy Of Socks
Saturday, October 28th, 2006I’d post an update on the Iris Garden socks, but I forgot to take a picture and it’s too far to get up. Yep, I’m lazy. Well, maybe not that lazy, but I’m in the living room floor on the laptop, and my knees are tired of climbing up and down. So, no picture.
And by the way - the Cardinals ROCK!! Like I told Ben at work - I might not tell you to bet on them sometimes, but I’ll always tell you NOT to bet against them. Too bad we couldn’t get tickets.
So, back to the socks.
Before I went to camp in July I sorted the Opal SOTM offerings looking for what I wanted to take. Did I bother to note what went with what on the patterns/labels? Why no, that would have made too much sense. So, I knew I still needed to go through these and figure out what went with what. The Opal is easy - I had already gone through the effort of figuring out what went with what once, so it was more of a reminder sort of thing. Once I got it all sorted, I was left with some nice neat little sorted out kits. No, Murphy did not ship in with one of them. She just wanted to be where I was, and I kept confusing her by moving around. She’s finally settled now. Poor little thing is
getting old. Once the Opal was done it was on to the Joslyns.
That’s where it gets more interesting.
The patterns she wrote are pretty easy to deal with. They show the colorway the sock was worked in, they’re specific as to which yarn was used, etc. The ones that came out with patterns from other people? Not so quick. In fact - I gave up. I sorted out the DK from the fingering yarn, and the patterns, and was still stumped. When I get ready to knit one of them I’ll just pick the yarn I like and go from there. I’ve got a scale to match weights to patterns, and if I don’t get them matched up right - who cares? It’s my knitting. Anyway, after sorting I still had two big piles of yarn that weren’t matched up. But they’re pretty. ![]()
