Two Weeks?

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

How the heck has it been two weeks?  Amazing.

The new job is still a hoot.  There’s just so much going on all the time, the days fly by.  The renovation is moving along.  We should be passing some major milestones this coming week, and I’m hoping they go well.

I have been knitting, although not much on things that take lots of brain.  Many days when I get home I’m too tired to work on complex projects.  So, lots of time on the latest iteration of the Henley from Knitting Pure & Simple.  I’m doing this one out of Kudo yarn from my stash.  Kudo is a cotton blend that is actually a single ply, so I chose to do this one in seed stitch to overcome any tendency to bias.  I’m pretty happy with how it’s going.  That’s one advantage to being a continental knitter - seed stitch or ribbing or any of the other stitches that have lots of knit to purl and purl to knit aren’t a big deal.  Plus I like the way it kind of blurs the color stripes, although they’re fairly wide anyway.

The colors are not as washed out as the flash makes them look.  I like knitting with this stuff, and I’m in the nice soothing round-and-round body part.  Very good for tired out, end of busy day knitting.

Have also been working on the Fadmur.  Although it’s lace, it’s very simple lace that doesn’t require much attention.  I’ve made it through one of the fronts, past the first armhole, and am starting across the back.

That yellow stripe on the right is where the armhole will go in.  I’m anxious to see how this comes out.

Went and hung out at GYC yesterday for a while.  Man, I *love* the new store space.  It’s so open and light….and there’s more yarn to choose from.  Spent quite a while looking for something to go with this

for a Wabi Sabi out of Cheryl Oberle’s Jackets book.  Finally chose (with some seriously good color help from MG) a pink/purple/periwinkle colorway of Cascade Quatro.  I think it will work very well.  I really didn’t want to go black, and a dark purple was the only other thing I came up with.  I think the Quatro will be just right - light enough to be pretty without being too much.  We’ll see.

Have done some on the Sonja Henie.  It’s not something I can just pick up and set down, although I am in a pretty simple part of the pattern.  Because it’s a jacket sized garment knit at a pretty small gauge, you wind up working well over 500 stitches per row.  Remember, it’s a two-sided, totally reversible garment with a negative image on the other side.  See?

Great fun to do.  We’re having a class in a couple of months on double knitting if you’re interested.  I’m going to test out a couple of gadgets between now and then to see if I can find a way that’s easier than two handed for working these.

And now - I think outside is calling me.  Happy Sunday!
