New Stuff
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010And old stuff too. Old stuff like in old kitty. I should know better than to brag on how well Squeek does, it tempts fate. She started vomiting last week and got dehydrated. Her kidney markers are up, but that could be from the dehydration. She’s been on fluids (first saline, then glucose) since Wednesday. She’s improving, but her appetite still isn’t what it should be. We keep asking how many more times we’re going to do this, but when she bounces back so well it’s really hard to make the call to let her go. We’ll see what her blood works shows if we do more. We won’t let her suffer or have a crappy quality of life, but don’t want to let go too soon either.
So send hungry thoughts and ear skritches her way if you have some to spare.
A few days ago I signed up for the 2010 Blue Moon Fiber Arts Rockin Sock Club. The first shipment came over the weekend, and it’s a lovely bright yarn for a dreary winter.

They’re still taking sign ups, so if you’ve always wanted to do the club now might be a good time.
Over at Ravelry (login required) the Ravelympics are in full swing. The idea is you cast on a project no earlier than opening ceremonies, and finish it by the end of the games. The exception is the WIP event, which is supposed to be something you haven’t touched in at least a month. I was going to try to finish my North Roe Shawl, which I’ve had on hold while working on the Swing Coat. I decided I’d rather try to knock out a pair of socks instead.
Regular readers may remember Nancy brought me some STR last year - Lenore, with the pattern from Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. I hadn’t broken it out to knit yet, and it hit me I wanted to have them done before they came to visit again this year. So - my Ravelympics project is the Lenore socks.

Knitting a pair of socks isn’t a challenge for me. The challenge is *finishing* a pair in a reasonable amount of time. I actually got lucky this time. Went to Vegas last weekend (not much knitting there, but airplane? Airplane is great knitting time!) and have the first sock through the heel turn. Last month when I taught the sock class one of my students remarked that the sock at this point looks like a scoop - she was so right!! Anywho, the other lucky thing is we have to go to Kansas City for a couple of days to work. That’s about 12 hours of knitting time during the car ride. Won’t be forgetting my little reading/knitting light this time! And the ride will be much nicer, as the co-worker who’s driving just got a new Maxima in December.
Final new news (not new topic, as you’ll see) is I made it into Camp this year! I’m so excited. July….off to Wisconsin. Rooming with Sarah again this year. Yippee!!
