It’s Not What It Looks Like

Even though my stash is growing just a little, it’s not because I’ve bought anything.

Nina gifted me a lovely hank of Cascade Heritage for my birthday.  She did a great job with the color, and we’ve already established I love this yarn.  See?

I removed something from stash.  The Schaeffer Heather, to start that gorgeous beaded Undulating Waves scarf I saw Sherry working on a couple of weeks ago.

Over the weekend I went through some of the project bags in the yarn room.  Some of these things have been in there at some stage of done for years.  YEARS.

They all had something to offer when I started.  But if you’ve knit for a while you probably know how it goes.  Maybe that viral garter stitch sweater everyone was knitting a few years ago just doesn’t work for you.  Maybe those measurements from a couple of years ago that had plenty of ease…uh…don’t have so much any more.  Maybe that sailor collared sweater you just had to make was a poor choice because of color.  I mean - puke green?  WTF was I thinking?  Or socks - too big, too small, pattern that doesn’t even show with the busy yarn color?  Maybe you realize one Swan Lake stole is enough, especially when you’re talking about knitting the second one with yarn the size of sewing thread.  Whatever the reason, the project just isn’t meant to be.  So - this is what I started with.

After one round of ripping, this is what I wound up with:

The red and grey sweater got a reprieve because the problem with it is the collar.  Either the pattern is really poorly written, or I missed something.  Either way, it didn’t work.  I pulled the collar and tried the bodice on, and I do want to try to make it work.  The sweater is cool and I think I’ll wear it.  That on the right is a huge bunch of Noro Kuryon in a great black/red/grey colorway.  See the pile of stitch markers in the lower left?  I got my little tin almost filled back up, especially after the second day of ripping.  Results of that here:

So after soaking the various yarns for a while in warm water, I’ve got this in my hall bath tub:

It’s not quite dry yet for me to weigh the Noro, Brown Sheep, and LaLana Forever Randoms to add them to my stash on Rav.  Once I do I’ll report on the (almost) total stash yardage.  I can tell you this - the number is terrifying.

And that puke green Brown Sheep?  I’m going to over dye it with a medium blue and I should get something gorgeous.
