Rip and Recover
Friday, December 28th, 2007The story of a knitters life…at least mine.
That great progress on Ms Morrison? I had to rip all the cabled bits because I didn’t read the directions closely enough and being my smug little self went “Oh that’s easy” and crossed every knit column instead of every other. Reknit two cuffs and about three inches of the bottom of the sweater to pay for it too. I could make a comment here about the total superiority of charts for just this reason, but I won’t. The fact is, I just skimmed it instead of actually reading.
But I reknit and now have it totally done other than a button.

I made it a bit shorter than my size called for because I’m short. Kay was right - this is great yarn. Very soft, easy to work with. She likes the vinegary smell it has. I really don’t. Next time I’ll probably soak/rinse my hanks before I wind them. I’ve got one whole one left over, haven’t decided what I’m going to do with it yet. I might pair it with one of the brighter colors and make that slip stitch scarf everyone is doing. We’ll see.
One of my January classes is beginning lace. We’re going to do a bookmark. Small, finishable in the class time, but big enough to teach the basics. I’ve been working on swatches for it and haven’t settled on one yet. It’s a funny looking little critter though, because I’m just doing one long swatch. I did decide for this I’m going to go down a needle size or two though.

Yes Robin, I have been working on the Alpine Scarf. I really thought again about ripping and going to a smaller needle, but I think I’ll just keep going. It’s going to be very, very pretty. I’ve only done two or three rows of the center panel so far, so there’s not much to see yet.

And finally, I just found out one of my nicest clients and his wife are having their first baby. Like any day now - they’re inducing her Monday if she doesn’t go on her own by then. I immediately decided I wanted to knit them something. Surfed the stash last night and settled on this DK weight cotton/acrylic blend from Sirdar to do the blankie. It’s just going to be a huge dishcloth. Two edge stitches in garter, with seed in between. This is going to be one of those increase until half the yarn is gone then start decreasing projects. Also planning to crank out a Baby Surprise, hat and some booties. I’ve got some Baby Ull in stash that will work perfectly for that.

We lucked into some Fiesta Bowl tickets courtesy of the Wife-In-Law. Not free, but we got them. Leaving for Phoenix early on the first, will go to Mom’s early on the third and be home late on the fourth. This close to time plane tix, etc were expensive but it’s worth it. We do have a pair of tickets we aren’t going to use, so if you know someone who wants to set up a quick trip drop me a comment.
That’s it! No bad weather (although the bridges were a little slick this morning and it’s pretty chilly out), got power, got internet, and have survived another year. I have to admit I’m pretty disgusted that I’m not where I was last year this time, but it’s okay. I got to have a massage today, and on top of the nice physical part of it I really love my therapist so enjoy visiting while I’m there. I may not get out tomorrow, we’ll see.
