If You Only Got Prizes For UFO’s….

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Yesterday was Christmas in July at the Pahdoco house. The boxes from Schoolhouse Press arrived. Not only my booty from shopping while I was there (yes, I had to have it shipped home. Now shut up about it.) but my prize from the contest.

It’s a very nice cool grey/green Lopi. And that is a photo - literally - of one tenth of my winnings. 20 skeins of the stuff! I’ve got visions of a hooded aran coat dancing in my head. May as well considering what I knit to win it, huh? Thanks again to Schoolhouse Press, and to JCA who donated the prize. To say I’m overwhelmed with the size of it is an understatement.

I’ve also tried again to get my yarn I got from Cheryl Oberle at camp to photograph well. It’s still resisting. Trust me - this is gorgeous stuff. It’s a wonderful cool blue with purple. Very subtle shading, very pretty, and the very intese colors are beyond my (or my husbands) ability to photograph. This is as close as I’ve come and it does not do the stuff justice.

So…I’ve been knitting my little hands (and elbows) off for the last few days. Enough that I’m feeling it. So I’ve decided to bust out a couple of the UFOs and see what I can accomplish.

You saw a photo of this a couple of months ago. I wound up just ripping two sweaters that month, so this one is showing up again.

Needs the sides sewn, the neckline edged somehow, and I’m thinking I’m going to put some beads around the bottom. I even bought some before. We’ll see if I can make that idea mature.

You’ve also seen this. It still hasn’t had it’s ends done (hence the strings hanging out…) so it’s going to get finished too.

Something you haven’t seen. This is a Dale sweater I saw at SWAK a couple of years ago. I knit it up, puzzled over the neck instructions and then just did it the way they tell you to. Now I know why they photographed it with a scarf around the neck of the model every time. It’s the goofiest neck I think I’ve ever seen on a sweater. I’m going to pull it out and reknit it. One or two reapeats of the lace pattern in red, then bind off in the silver. Insert sleeves and it will be done too.

And finally - this is a sweater out of Knitters a few years ago. I don’t remember what they called for yarn wise, but I got some Noro and some Brown Sheep and finally made it. I outsmarted myself though.

I thought I’d short row the sleeve caps. Well….may I suggest you don’t do that on a bulky yarn. There’s no way (that I could figure out) to make the jump where you knit back and bind off sew neatly into the armscye.

So… got to take the sewing out of the one I’ve put in and reknit the caps. I’ll be much happier. I’m also seriously leaning towards doing away with that sailor collar business and redoing a shawl collar in the Noro. I’ll see how I like it finished before I decide though.

In the real life department: Drivers.

1. If you’re in the fast lane you’re not passing any one, that should be your first clue to move over. Your other - when you’re being passed on the right over and over and over again - GET OVER.

2.a. People who drive into water when they can’t tell how deep it is are just…well…stupid.

2.b. People who won’t drive into water when they can still see the curb on one side and the left lane marker is clear of the water on the other and stop traffic while they try to change lanes are also…well…STUPID.

Long commute both ways today, can you tell???
